Work on the Clinic.

A group from Midland, Texas has come to Didasko this week to help work on one of the many Didasko projects, the new health clinic. That they are having built/remolded. The room, which the group and paid workers, that Jorge has hired, are changing what used to be a storage room, or at least that’s what it has been in the month that I’ve been here, into a Health clinic for when or if the kids get sick. They have to tear out all the tiles and bricks on the walls and floors. They already resized a window and put another one in and now they have to re-pour cement back on the floors. Things are very different in the State than they are here, when it comes to the cement, plus other things. The workers mix the cement on the ground. Once the cement is mixed they shovel it into a wheel-barrow and then pour the cement in the place that they want it and level everything out with the certain tools they use. It’s so interesting to watch, and I’m really learning while watching.
The group of eight is working so hard, it’s amazing. They have gotten so much accomplished and its only been a day! The floor is all out and so are the wall bricks, and now they are putting cement back in. Rhonda told me something that one of the workers said the other day that I think is funny. (Warning!! it’s better when Rhonda says it) Suyapa said, “Rhonda, the women that come here to help, work like men! (Or something around that) I have to laugh at that because I am, and I’m sure you know women who work outside doing “men” like jobs, so used to working hard, both outside of the house and in, but here the women do the cooking and cleaning, some might even have a garden, but you wouldn’t really see the women outside hauling bricks, and helping mix cement and such. Everything is so different. Really it’s hard to explain everything, you would have to come and experience it yourself. Which if you would like to visit, I’m sure I could hook you up. (:

This is not even half of everything going on or what I could go on talking about, but if you want to know more e-mail me. It’s starting to get harder to find time to write blogs and such. But I’ll update as much as possible with pictures at least. Well, that’s all for now. Until next time.
